Declares the photograph was returned in a wretched condition. Is not fit to sit up but had "to moan" about it. Probably refers to the photograph of Hawthorne set from England by Henry Arthur Bright. An engraving of it appears in Good Company, Boston 1866. 3 p.

Fears the engraving misses the delicacy of the photograph; the mouth is distorted. Probably refers to the engraving of Hawthorne made from the photograph taken by John Edwin Mayall and printed in Good Company, Boston 1866. Mutilated. 4 p.
