About:

The Boston Public Library (BPL) holds extensive special collections in a wide variety of subjects and formats including manuscripts, fine arts, photographs, prints, music, archives, sculpture, rare books, and audio visual collections. BPL is one of only two public libraries in the United States that are members of the Association of Research Libraries.

More information about BPL's Archives Department is available online on the department's libguide. For questions about our collections, help navigating BPL finding aids, or to suggest changes to our descriptions, you can contact us directly.

More information about BPL Special Collections can be found on the BPL Special Collections website.

Everyone is welcome to use our collections in our reading room at Central Library.

In order to prepare our collections for your use, research appointments are required and can be made through your Reading Room Account. Visit the BPL Special Collections research page to plan your research visit.
