Boston Public Library Archives & Special Collections

The Boston Public Library (BPL) holds extensive special collections in a wide variety of subjects and formats including manuscripts, fine arts, photographs, prints, music, archives, sculpture, rare books, and audio visual collections. BPL is one of only two public libraries in the United States that are members of the Association of Research Libraries.

More information about BPL's Archives Department is available online on the department's libguide. For questions about our collections, help navigating BPL finding aids, or to suggest changes to our descriptions, you can contact us directly.

More information about BPL Special Collections can be found on the BPL Special Collections website and department libguides:
- Guide to the Rare Book and Manuscripts Department
- Guide to collections in the Arts Department
- More research guidance on various subjects can be found throughout BPL’s LibGuides

Please note that the Special Collections Reading Room is currently closed for renovations until mid-2022. Until then, collections are unavailable for in-person research.
