This collection contains 11 letters written to William D. Williamson between 1820-1844 and discuss the history of Maine. Also included is genealogical research pertaining to the Williamson family, extracts of court cases and legal documents, and documents concerning the settlement of Maine.

Biographical / Historical
William D. Williamson, 1779-1846, the second governor of Main, was born in Canterbury, Connecticut, and attended Williams College and Brown University. He moved to Bangor where he practiced law and served in many local public offices, as well as the Massachusetts State senate, the Maine State senate, and was elected to the United States House of Representatives. When he returned to Bangor, he continued to practice law and also served as Judge of Probate. In addition, Williamson was an early historian of the state of Maine.
