Massachusetts Society of Colonial Wars Records
Scope and Contents
The Massachusetts Society of Colonial Wars collection documents the functions and interactions the Society had with its members and other organizations. The correspondence reflects committee and officer appointments, genealogy requests, monument construction notes, events such as dinners and Colonial Wars Day, and donations to the Library of Congress and other historical societies. Also included are letters referring to administrative and day to day functions that kept the association organized, such as dues and membership status. The related materials are largely composed of documents from other Colonial Wars Societies, among them Texas, Vermont, and New York. The Massachusetts branch kept notes on officers and members of the societies in other parts of the country and their collaboration in the construction of monuments and special events. The Treasury file contains financial reports and rules on dues and prices for insignias and other regalia. Records include membership lists, invitations, and programs.

Statement on harmful description
Archival description reflects the biases of time periods and cultures in which it was created and may include direct quotations or descriptions that use inappropriate or harmful language. Creator provided descriptions may be maintained in order to preserve the context in which the collection was created and/or used. Legacy description and potentially offensive content may be made available online until a collection can be reprocessed because the access that they provide to primary source materials is uniquely valuable to the research community at large. Our efforts to repair outdated descriptions and to describe our collections more equitably are iterative and ongoing.
