Scope and Contents
Astonished at reports of Prison Discipline Society on [Philadelphia] penitentiary, feels duty bound to write plain statement. During stop in Jersey City, she inspected old jail; entered a stranger’s house at random in search of information, was recognized and furnished with documents by owner, later identified as mayor of city. Visited insane man and transferred him to hospital at Schuylkill. Most of day is given to penitentiary. Will write in favor of separate system.
