Columns, Publications, and Research Material, n.d., 1965-2008
Scope and Contents
The mission of "Society Rag" was to report on fundraising events for Boston’s artistic and cultural institutions, particularly Boston Public Library’s “Literary Lights” gala, the Friends of the Public Garden’s fashion show, and the fundraiser for Ellis Memorial Hospital. Regular columns in the magazine document Boston society and the places they frequented such as the restaurants Daisy Buchanan’s and L’Espalier, the Claude Rhia boutique, and Andy Wharhol at the Morgan Gallery. Reviews of wine, furniture design, and antique shows were weekly columns, together with news from London and New York.
Also documented is Ms. Spaak’s writing processes, beginning with lists of ideas for stories, research notes, and the final published product. Material includes articles, notes, newspaper clippings, programs, brochures, and correspondence. See Series 2, Photographic Images, for images published in Ms. Spaak’s columns. Also see boxes 13-14 for original Home Furnishings Daily and Newbury Street and Back Bay Guide columns.
