Scope and Contents The English (British) Civilization Collection contains more than 1,500 letters and documents that were either purchased by the Boston Public Library or were donated. The material was written by royal, political, military, literary, scientific, and artistic figures, together with other individuals who contributed to British and Irish history and culture throughout the 19^th and 20^th centuries.
